Where it All Began
Onesimus was a slave who had robbed his master (Philemon) and was caught and imprisoned. During his time in prison, Onesimus encountered the Apostle Paul, who guided him towards embracing Christianity. However, upon his release from prison, Onesimus faced the challenge of not having a place to call home.
In response, Paul composed a letter to Philemon, which is now known as the book of Philemon in the Bible. In the letter, Paul implored Philemon to extend his hospitality, support, and aid in facilitating Onesimus' transition into a Christian life beyond the confines of prison. This narrative beautifully exemplifies the depth of God's compassion and concern for the liberation of even a single individual. It is remarkable to note that an entire book, out of the sixty-six that comprise the Bible, was dedicated to addressing this very situation.
